It's for Charity
"Absolutely not." Neji Hyuga stood in the dimly lit living room, utterly livid as he stared past his girlfriend. She looked up at him, brown eyes shimmering, her lower lip protruding slightly as she tried to get his attention with her ever successful puppy pout.
"Oh c'mon, Neji," Tenten sighed exasperatedly as she saw that he was not breaking his very fixated gaze on the fascinating wall sconce behind her. "It's not like they'll mean anything!" she yelled. He blinked, continuing to stare blankly into space. She threw her arms up in the air and stormed over to the dining room table to clean up the remnants of their unfinished dinner. Banging cutlery and hastily stacking plates, she stormed into the kitchen and slammed the dishes into the sink, not really caring whether or not she broke any. Neji watched her with careful eyes as she came back into the living room and grabbed her half empty wine glass from the table and turned to him, swirling the red liquid around slightly.
"You're ridiculous," she growled, taking a long drought of the alcohol and slamming the glass back onto the table.
," he began, softening his gaze slightly. She glared at him. No way was she backing down on this one. He sighed softly and walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her slender frame. She tensed at first, but eventually couldn't help but lean into the embrace and hugged him back. She buried her face in his shoulder, taking in the scent of his cologne. "Don't you know that I don't want anyone else having you?" he said, stroking her hair gently.
" she said. She pulled away slightly to look up at his face and her heart melted a little at the affectionate look he was giving her. She really knew all too well. He brushed back her bangs from her face and leaned in to kiss her softly on the lips, quickly and tenderly, but long enough to make her heart beat a little faster. She smiled up at him after they parted. She knew none of them would make her feel quite like this. But still
"Please? For me?" She batted her eyelashes up at him, a technique that never seemed to fail her.
And this time was no exception. Neji closed his eyes, sighed, and nodded slightly, just once. Tenten smiled and squeezed him tight around his waist.
"Don't worry, it'll be fine. After all, it's all for charity!"
"Alright, next in line!" Iruka-sensei shouted. Tenten groaned a little inwardly. Why had she agreed to do this again? She had been at it for two hours. Two whole hours of doing nothing but locking lips with some of the worst and most disgusting people she could have ever imagined.
"Okay, who was it that said a kissing booth would be a good idea again?" Tenten asked, wiping her lips as a man who couldn't have been younger than sixty walked happily away from the table. Tenten looked over and glanced at who was next and shuddered slightly as she caught sight of the bearded man who stood grinning creepily at her.
"That'll be five dollars, please." Iruka took the man's money, depositing it into a pouch, and turned to answer Tenten who was bracing herself for impact. "And that would be Ino." Tenten quickly pecked the man on the lips, a look of sheer disgust on her face.
"Great. Remind me to kill her when she gets here to replace me. Or better yet, let me kill whoever her replacement is so that she has to stay here longer and suffer." Tenten cringed slightly as she watched the man skip away from the booth. Did she really still have ten more minutes of this?
It had seemed like a good plan to her at first: a kissing booth to raise money for the academy students to get them much needed new training equipment. Each of the four chunin kunoichi had agreed to take turns throughout the day, preforming the grueling task, but for some strange reason, even with their high intellect, it hadn't occurred to them to set an age limit to who came up. And even they didn't anticipate just how many men would turn up for the event. While it was great for the academy students, who would no doubt be getting their equipment, Tenten couldn't help but feel sorry for herself and her chapped lips. Maybe she should have let Neji win their argument the night before
"Oy, Tenten!" Looking up from her daydreaming, Tenten brushed her auburn bangs out of her face to see two very familiar men next in line. Utter relief washed over her.
"Hey Kiba!" she shouted, waving at the fanged man and his silent, stoic companion. Tenten smiled up at a clearly upset Neji as he came to stand beside her. She grabbed his hand and squeezed it reassuringly, trying to ease some of the overprotective jealousy out of him while at the same time trying to hide her more than obvious tiredness at this particularly odd mission. He smiled back weakly at her. Tenten turned back to the brown-haired man. "What are you guys doing here?"
"Well what do you think I'm doing? I'm here for the fundraiser!" Kiba grinned mischievously and quickly handed Iruka a five dollar bill. Before Tenten knew what was happening Kiba had grabbed her face, rather aggressively, and was kissing her right on the mouth. It lasted a mere second before she felt his lips part from hers and she opened her eyes to find the dog-boy lying flat on the ground, the wind knocked completely out of him as the dust from his sudden impact settled around him.
"Neji! What did you do?!" she shouted, jumping up from her chair. The weapons-mistress turned her attention to her boyfriend who stood over the Inuzuka, arms crossed, standing as if he had done nothing wrong. The icy glare he was giving Kiba, however, made Tenten shiver, even though she wasn't the one it was directed at. She was more than positive that that stare would have frozen polar bears. Neji looked at her out of the corner of his eye as Kiba gasped to regain his breath. The Hyuga raised one eyebrow up at her as if to say "What?" Tenten glared back at him and proceeded to help Kiba up off the ground.
"Are you okay?" she asked as he brushed himself off. He laughed and looked over at Neji.
"Oh I'm fine. Just won myself a little bet is all." He winked at her and ran off towards someone who looked suspiciously like a familiar blonde knucklehead standing in the crowd. "Thanks for the smooch!" Tenten stared after him incredulously before turning her attention back to Neji who now stood glaring at her.
"What? Oh come on, out of all the people who've kissed me today he was by far th-"
Tenten didn't get the chance to finish her sentence before a pair of warm lips crashed against her own. She was startled at first; not realizing quite what was happening before she realized just who it was that was kissing her.
But this wasn't like their other kisses. No, Neji had always been gentle and tentative with his, not fierce and fervent like he was being now. Tenten closed her eyes and leaned into it, wrapping her arms around his neck, her fingers entangled in his hair. She smiled inwardly as he ran his hands up her back to her hair as well, his body pressing up against hers. It was making Tenten feel nothing like she'd ever felt before with Neji: passion. A couple of wolf whistles came out from the crowd but she ignored them as she opened her mouth to his.
They broke apart, suddenly, both gasping for breath, not looking to see who had interrupted them. Tenten stared up into Neji's eyes, seeing a heat there that she'd never seen before in the lavender irises. They stood there panting for a few moments, their intense gaze focused only on each other.
Tenten shook her head to clear her thoughts and turned to face the speaker. Hinata and Ino stood staring at them from the front of the whooping and whistling crowd. Hinata was bright red as she looked first from her cousin to Tenten, then back to her cousin, obviously not quite sure what to think. Ino stood with her hands on her hips, one blonde eyebrow raised at the couple who still stood in each other's arms. "Are you guys about finished there?" Ino asked.
" Tenten licked her lips, not quite being able to find her words. Were they? She looked back up at Neji.
"Looks like your replacement's here." He released himself from Tenten's hold and walked over to Iruka. Tenten watched, amazed, as Neji pulled a fifty dollar bill from his pocket and dropped it into the money pouch before calmly walking away.
It took Tenten mere seconds before she realized what he'd just done and her face turned beet red with anger. Her hands went right to her kunai pouch and she flung several blades at him before running after him down the street.
